Spotsylvania Education Foundation President, Diana Wellerman(right) was pleased to present a $1,000 donation to Smart Beginnings Rappahannock Area. Executive Director, Sara Branner(Center) and Board Chair Glenn Kinard(left)of Smart Beginnings Rappahannock Area gratefully accepted the contribution to help fund school readiness programs so children arrive at school healthy and prepared to succeed in school and in life.
The Spotsylvania Education Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of our first round of SEED Grants for the 2012-13 school year. The Foundation through fundraising efforts such as a Jean's Day and generous donations to the Foundation's Endowment Fund, is able to provide SCS staff funding for professional development, certifications, and college classes.
We reviewed 78 applications and awarded 14 grants totaling $5,488.75.

Jill Bates - Courtland Elementary (Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing) $353.00
Description: Support the cost of a "See-The-Sound Visual Phonics" Professional Development training program for 25 teachers of deaf, interpreters, and speech therapists.
Melissa Brace - Chancellor Middle (7th Grade Civics & Economics Teacher) $498.00

For individuals who applied who did not receive a grant in this round, you will be automatically considered in the next round of grants should your certification, conference, or class take place during the 2012-13 school year.

The Foundation has established the the Jerry Hill Continuing Education Fund which supports teachers, administrators, and support staff seeking advanced degrees, National Board Certification, and other professional development opportunities.
